Be sure to include the local Home Builders Association in your search for a custom builder.  Make sure that you research whether the contractor you are considering is current with all insurance and licensing requirements.  Contact the local building department to see if the contractor has any infractions.  It is also a good idea to check the Better Business Bureau.
